Carlo Ancelotti has reached an agreement in principle with the Brazilian Football Association (CBF), Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday. The 65-year-old will take charge of the Brazilian national team from June and lead the team to the 2026 World Cup in Mexico City, Canada.
However, Ancelotti's first task is to lead the Brazilian team to participate in the World Cup qualifiers on June 3 and 8, against Ecuador and Paraguay respectively. Currently, Brazil ranks fourth in the South American World Cup qualifiers with 6 wins, 3 draws and 5 losses, accumulating 21 points, 10 points behind the leader Argentina.
According to ESPN, Marca, AS and other media, Ancelotti will not lead Real Madrid to participate in the Club World Cup held from June 14 to July 13. AS also pointed out that Ancelotti's annual salary in the Brazilian team is about 10 million euros, which is equivalent to his income in Real Madrid. His contract with the Brazilian team is valid until the end of the 2026 World Cup, and he can choose to renew it until 2030.
As for Ancelotti's successor, 43-year-old Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso is seen as the most likely choice.
