Simon Mignolet announced his retirement at the end of this season at the age of 38.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet announced on Thursday that he will officially retire at the end of this season.

The 38-year-old Mignolet came through the youth academy of St. Tréten and made his first-team debut in the Belgian First Division on May 5, 2007. He subsequently played for Sunderland and Liverpool, and will play his final match for Club Brugge.

To date, Mignolet has made 720 club appearances, including 47 in the Champions League, 21 in the Europa League, 8 in the Europa League, 245 in the Premier League, and 285 in the Belgian Pro League (249 regular season games and 36 playoff games). He won the Champions League with Liverpool and four Belgian Pro League titles, one Belgian Cup, and three Belgian Super Cups with Club Brugge.

At the national team level, Mignolet mainly plays a substitute role. From 2010 to 2022, he made a total of 25 appearances for Belgium, including three World Cups (2014, 2018, 2022) and two European Championships (2016, 2021).

Now, Mignolet has decided to end his 19-year professional career. In a press conference, he stated clearly: "The Belgian First Division A playoffs will be the last ten games of my career. I will join the Belgian Football Association's management on September 1, 2026, to begin a new journey."

"Now is not the time for sentimental thank yous or nostalgic reflections. Not because they don't exist—quite the opposite—but because the story isn't over yet. We still have ten crucial games ahead of us, with only one goal: to win the championship and take our second star."

“I’m delighted to have recovered from my injury and be fit to play in my final few games, contributing to the team. My promise to the fans is simple: while the final result isn’t entirely in my control, my dedication, willpower, and determination will remain constant until my last moment at Club Brugge. That’s always been my commitment, and I hope to end my career that way.”
