Slaughter urges Liverpool to maintain the standards set in the past

With the pre-season friendly matches over, Liverpool will travel to Wembley Stadium to challenge Crystal Palace in the 2025 Community Shield. Slaughter said that participating in the Community Shield is the best way to start the new season and called on the team to maintain the standards set in the past.

In the 2025/26 Premier League season, Liverpool achieved 25 wins, 9 draws and 4 losses under the leadership of coach Slaughter, and eventually won the championship.

Liverpool manager Slaughter said in an interview, "As someone who has always followed English football, I know how special it is to participate in the game at Wembley Stadium. Last season was my first time here as a manager, and now I am very much looking forward to leading the team to this stadium again."

"For us, this game is the ideal one to prepare for the new season. As a manager, I will think about three things in the new season: completing excellent training on the training ground, playing competitive and challenging games, and avoiding injuries as much as possible."

In addition, in the first round of the 2025/26 Premier League season, Liverpool will face Bournemouth at Anfield.

"We are of course aware of what we achieved last season and it is very important for us to maintain the standards we have established over the past 12 months," Slaughter said.

It is worth mentioning that Crystal Palace defeated Manchester City 1-0 in last season's FA Cup final thanks to Eze's goal, and successfully won the championship.

Talking about their upcoming opponent Crystal Palace, Slaughter said, "They always make the game difficult. They have excellent players and a clear and excellent manager. It is really impressive to beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final and win the championship, and they deserve high praise."
