Egyptian star Mohamed Salah previously announced that he will leave Liverpool after many years at the end of the 2025/26 season. Liverpool manager Sloot stated that Salah is a player who has never stopped striving for success and believes the star will leave Liverpool as a legend.
The 34-year-old Salah joined Liverpool in 2017 and has helped the "Reds" win two Premier League titles, one Champions League title, one European Super Cup title, one Club World Cup title, one FA Cup title and one League Cup title in his long nine years. He has also won the Premier League Golden Boot four times.
Liverpool manager Sloot said in an interview, "I knew he was leaving a while ago, so it's not new to me. But it's a wonderful thing to see the reactions from his teammates and around the world, acknowledging what he has done for the club and for football as a whole."
“I used to watch him play more as a fan, seeing him achieve these incredible feats at Liverpool. Not just against Manchester City, but in every other game, he kept breaking record after record. When I started working with him, I was impressed by his mentality from day one. As with every season, the team conducts fitness tests to assess the players' training during the off-season, and he was the best of all. He was the best-fit player to come back, and as a manager, of course you want your key players to return in that condition.”
Slott said, "He no longer needs to prove anything to anyone, but he always demands more of himself because he always feels like he has to prove himself every three days. This desire never stops, and that's what I think is the most special thing about him."
“There are many excellent players in the world, and he is undoubtedly one of the top players of the past 10 years. He can show this kind of desire to win, professionalism, commitment to the club and team, and hunger for goals and playing time every three days. Even if you take him off with three minutes left in the game, he will feel that he might be able to score another goal, which is what impresses me the most.”
In addition, Liverpool will travel to Manchester to face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals, followed by a Champions League quarter-final match against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain. In the Premier League, Liverpool currently sit 5th in the table with 49 points, continuing their pursuit of Champions League qualification.
It's worth mentioning that former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp previously stated that Mohamed Salah is an irreplaceable player, and therefore urged Liverpool to find new ways to play.
Sloot added, "Hopefully, in the coming weeks and months, while we still have important goals to achieve, he can make his legendary status even more special. But in any case, he will leave the club as a legend because, as I said, the team's performance in recent years has been largely due to his contributions."
“I’ve seen him form a front three with Mane and Firmino, and people are still talking about them, which is perfectly justified. When I started working with him, I’m not sure if it was his best season statistically, but it was definitely an impressive season because he was both the team’s top scorer and top assist provider. I’m not sure if that happens often with him, let alone with other players in the Premier League.”
Furthermore, Sloot emphasized, "He will definitely leave as a club legend."
