Tottenham Hotspur announced that Argentine international center-back Cristian Romero has renewed his long-term contract with Tottenham Hotspur. The 27-year-old defensive core will continue to play in North London.

Romero joined on loan from Atalanta in 2021 and quickly became a pillar of the team's defense, moving permanently the following year. He helped Tottenham return to the Champions League in his first season and has now made 126 appearances and scored 8 goals.

Last season, Romero, as vice-captain, led the team to victory in the Europa League, winning not only the tournament's best player but also Man of the Match in the final and being named to the Europa League Team of the Year alongside his teammates. Earlier this month, Romero was appointed full captain by coach Thomas Frank, and has led the team in both the UEFA Super Cup and the Premier League.

After the contract extension, Romero expressed his excitement: "The past two weeks have meant a lot to me. First I became captain and now I have renewed my contract with the club. I am very, very happy. Tottenham is the best club in the world and I love it here."

"There are top coaches here and the people here make me happy. My child was born here and my family is very happy. It means a lot to me to be able to walk out on the field with my son in hand for Saturday's game."

Facing the fans, Romero expressed his gratitude: "Thank you for your support every day. Football has its ups and downs, but the most important thing is to always be united. Why can't we win again this season?"

With the signing of the new contract, Romero will continue to lead Tottenham as captain, and fans also look forward to this iron-blooded central defender creating new glory in the coming season.
