According to Mike McGrath of The Daily Telegraph, Crystal Palace are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur winger Brennan Johnson in the winter transfer window.
Crystal Palace have had a strong start to the season, sitting fourth in the Premier League after 15 rounds with 26 points from 7 wins, 5 draws, and 3 losses. To solidify their competitive advantage, the club has made signings to strengthen their attacking line one of its priorities in the winter transfer window.
The 24-year-old Johnson came through the Nottingham Forest youth academy and transferred to Tottenham Hotspur in September 2023 for £47.5 million. To date, he has made 104 appearances for Tottenham, scoring 27 goals and providing 18 assists, and won the 2024/25 Europa League title with the team.
With the departure of Ange Postecoglou, Johnson's tactical role at Tottenham has changed significantly. In Thomas Frank's last six appearances in all competitions, he has only made one start.
For Crystal Palace, Johnson is undoubtedly the ideal replacement for Ismaila Sarr: Sarr has missed the last three matches due to an ankle ligament injury and is highly likely to represent Senegal in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. However, whether this deal can make substantial progress depends on Tottenham's attitude towards Johnson's future, as well as their transfer strategy and squad planning in the winter transfer window. If the Johnson deal falls through, Crystal Palace will turn their attention to Basel winger Philipp Ottele.
The 26-year-old Ottel has previously played for Wolveston, Kaunoz-Kirches, UTA Arad, CFR CFR CFR, and Abu Dhabi Unión before joining Basel on loan in January 2015. To date, he has made 48 appearances for Basel, scoring 17 goals and providing 7 assists.
