In the second leg of the quarter-finals of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League, Real Madrid lost 1-2 to Premier League giants Real Madrid after Vinicius scored a goal when they were ahead. After failing to advance to the Champions League semi-finals, Real Madrid defender Vazquez said that the team had tried their best and was eager to win the next games of this season.

Arsenal midfielder Merino assisted Saka to score in the 65th minute, giving Arsenal a 1-0 lead. In the 67th minute, Saliba made a mistake when receiving the ball, and Vinicius got the ball and shot it in, helping Real Madrid to tie the score 1-1, but the total score continued to lag behind Arsenal 1-4.

In the second half stoppage time, Merino made a straight pass, Martinelli received it and broke into the penalty area and shot into the goal, helping Arsenal to extend their lead to 2-1.

In the end, Real Madrid lost to Arsenal 1-5 on aggregate at the Bernabeu Stadium, and their journey to defend the Champions League title this season came to an end.

"It was a difficult moment and we tried our best," said the 33-year-old Vasquez. "It was a very difficult game and we didn't create many ideal opportunities. At times we stayed calm, but there were many obstacles in the game. At some moments, the balance of victory and defeat might have tilted towards us, but in the end it didn't, and we didn't accomplish what we wanted to do."

"We lacked sharpness in possession and sometimes lacked the patience to pass the ball to the other side to break through the opponent's well-organized defense. Their purpose was to defend and they executed it well. They hardly created any threats in the first half, and in the second half when we controlled the game, they took away the victory. But overall, the team has tried its best."

"We celebrate when we win, and we take responsibility when we lose. That's football," Vazquez said. "Our fans know that the team always gives its all. Sometimes we get the result we want, sometimes we fail, but we always give it our all."

On the other hand, Real Madrid is currently ranked second in the La Liga standings with 66 points, 4 points behind first-placed Barcelona. In the Spanish King's Cup final, Ancelotti's team will compete with Barcelona for the championship.

"There is still a long way to go this season, the team is united and in good shape. We want to win all the remaining games, and we will do our best to do this," said Vazquez.
