World Cup Qualifier – Saka scores as England beat Serbia 2-0


The ninth round of Group K matches in the European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup took place, with England, playing at Wembley Stadium, defeating Serbia 2-0 thanks to goals from Saka and Eze.


In the 14th minute, England started a passing game, but Kane received a pass from Morgan Rodgers in a scramble but couldn't create a threat. In the 19th minute, Kane passed the ball from outside the penalty area, and Saka followed up with a chip shot from inside the box, but the ball went over the goal.


In the 25th minute, Rice passed the ball back from the left wing, and Rashford met it with a shot, but the ball was caught by Serbian goalkeeper Rajkovic. In the 28th minute, Rice's free kick was blocked by Rajkovic, and Nico Aureli, outside the penalty area, controlled the ball and took a long-range shot, which was blocked by an opposing player. Saka then volleyed the ball into the net, giving England a 1-0 lead.


In the 35th minute, Rashford dribbled into the penalty area but his shooting opportunity was thwarted by an opposing player. In the 42nd minute, Rice took a corner kick, and Kane's header went wide.


In the 61st minute of the second half, Rashford made a mistake while receiving a lobbed pass from his teammate, and the ball was subsequently intercepted by Serbian goalkeeper Rajkovic. In the 63rd minute, Serbia launched a counter-attack, with Kostic dribbling into the penalty area and passing back, but Vlahovic's backheel shot went wide.


In the 75th minute, substitute Henderson chipped a pass into the penalty area, and Foden rushed forward to head the ball, but it went wide. In the 81st minute, Serbia launched an attack, Luka Jovic's cross was cleared, and Samardzic volleyed the ball, but it went wide.


In the 85th minute, Serbia continued their attack. Vlahovic received a cross from his teammate and curled a shot, but the ball went wide of the post. Two minutes later, England attempted a counter-attack. Foden chipped a pass from the edge of the penalty area, and Eze attempted a volley, but the ball struck the post.


In stoppage time of the second half, Foden dribbled into the edge of the penalty area and passed the ball diagonally to Eze, who then fired a long-range shot into the net, extending England's lead to 2-0.


England ultimately defeated Serbia 2-0 away from home.
