Augsburg announced on Tuesday that it has activated the buyout clause for Wolfsburg's on-loan central defender Chedrich Zesig. The two sides have signed a four-year contract that will expire on June 30, 2029.
According to German media reports, Zesig's buyout fee is 4 million euros.
The 26-year-old Zesiger made his debut at Swiss club Neuchâtel, and then moved to Grasshoppers Zurich, Young Boys Bern and Wolfsburg. He won three Swiss Super League titles and two Swiss Cup titles with Young Boys Bern. After joining Wolfsburg, he played a total of 30 Bundesliga games and 4 German Cup games.
In January this year, Zesiger joined Augsburg on loan from Wolfsburg. So far, he has made 15 appearances in Augsburg and contributed 2 assists.
Augsburg CEO Michael Strörer explained the decision to buy out Zesiger: "Chedric quickly integrated into the team after joining us, and his performance in the second half of the season helped us a lot. He has a very healthy winning mentality and uses it to drive his teammates around him."
"As a team player, he also plays an important role off the pitch. We are delighted that Chedric will continue to wear the Augsburg shirt for the next few years," he concluded.
Zesiger said: "I am very happy to continue my journey in Augsburg. My expectations have been fully met since the transfer. I feel at home in the team and in the city, which is just as important to me as the sporting factors."
"We are still growing as a team, but the journey is far from over. I look forward to being part of Augsburg's future and continuing to contribute to achieving our goals."
