Wolverhampton Wanderers announced on their official website on Thursday that they have appointed Matt Jackson, the English chairman of Grasshopper Zurich, as their new Technical Director.
According to Wolves' official statement, Jackson will primarily report to Chairman Jeff Shi on the club's day-to-day operations and will leverage his leadership in areas such as team technical department and player development.
It's worth mentioning that this is actually Jackson's second stint with Wolves.
He was previously appointed as Wolverhampton Wanderers' player loan marketing manager in May 2021, helping Wolves establish a robust player loan system and helping build a relatively strong U21s team, academy team, and women's team.
His most notable achievement is the successful development of Amara Nallo, the England U21s international wonderkid who has since moved to Liverpool.
About Matt Jackson
Born on October 19, 1971, in Leeds, England, the 54-year-old Jackson is 1.83 meters tall. A former England U21s international defender, he primarily played as a centre-back but could also play right-back.
Jackson began his professional career at Luton Town, later playing for Everton where he helped the club complete a stunning FA Cup and Community Shield Double in 1995.
The following year, he moved to Norwich City, where his outstanding performances earned him the club's Player of the Year award.
In October 2001, Jackson joined Wigan Athletic on-loan, later becoming his transfer was made permanent.
During his six-year spell at Wigan, Jackson helped the club achieve promotion from League One to the Premier League all the way and reached the League Cup final once.
After leaving Wigan in the summer of 2007, Jackson played for Watford and Blackpool before retiring in August of the following year.
After retiring, Jackson became a football agent, but returned to Wigan Athletic in 2015 after being appointed as Operations Manager.
From May 2021 to the summer of 2023, as mentioned above, Jackson was appointed player loan marketing manager.
In July 2023, Jackson was appointed Grasshopper Zurich chairman.
During his two years and four months at Grasshopper, Jackson helped the long-established Swiss Super League club, which had been mired in financial difficulties in recent years, successfully avoid relegation for three consecutive years with limited funds.
