The Liverpool ECHO reported on Tuesday that Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers fans collectively criticized the Daily Mail for its gossip-magazine-like reporting of fake news about the two clubs' legendary Portugal international forward Diogo Jota, who tragically died in a car accident last week with his younger brother, and launched a collective boycott campaign.

According to the report, since the moment the news of the unfortunate death of Jota and his brother André Silva came out, Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have been very disgusted with the Daily Mail's deliberate reporting of Jota-related news every few minutes, whether in its newspaper or online version.

According to the information collected by the fans, the news repeatedly published by the Daily Mail are almost all hearsay and unconfirmed.

At the same time, every time they publish a related report, they would use photos and video clips of other people's car accident scenes, and deliberately publish and focus on photos and videos of Jota's widow Ruth Cardoso and her family crying outside the morgue and during the pallbearing ceremony. There are also many claims that "the dead are guilty", which completely angered the fans.

In order to vent their anger, Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have launched an online petition asking fans and the two teams to boycott the Daily Mail for life. Among them, the demands of the Reds' fans are to ask the newspaper to be blacklisted by Liverpool for life like the country's top inferior media outlet The Sun.

So far, this online petition has accumulated nearly 25,000 Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers fans to actively participate.

There are also many other Premier League clubs' fans from all over the world who not only participated in this petition, but also donated and shared to let more people know the purpose and significance of the fans' petition.

In fact, former legendary Liverpool striker and manager Sir Kenny Dalglish, had already clearly stated in his eulogy for Jota that "this is the time for everyone to put aside their hostility and not to focus on the essence of football, pray for the deceased and give condolences to Jota and André's family."

At the same time, Liverpool has also clearly stated on its official website that it hopes everyone can give the club, players, coaches and Jota and André's relatives and friends private space to mourn the deceased, therefore the Daily Mail's lack of moral and professional ethics is indeed excessive and disrespectful.

It is worth mentioning that although they are one of the most read daily newspapers in the UK, the Daily Mail, as the mouthpiece of the right-wing Conservative Party, has been the newspaper that has been criticized by the opposition in Parliament and sued the most since February 2001 for sensationalism, lack of factual basis, and their frequent reporting of fabricated speeches and news.

They are even the first newspaper to be publicly blacklisted by Wikipedia since 2017.

In fact, upon verification, the Daily Mail is not the only organization that has been severely criticized and boycotted by Liverpool and Wolves fans. 

An Indian FC 25 (FIFA 25) player with the account name S2G was also severely criticized for abusing the name of "Tribute to Jota" and posting on YouTube on the day of the player's death that he used Jota's image in the game to falsely claim that he wanted to make donations for charity to clickbait.
