Italian international Florenzi announced his retirement at the age of 34

Alessandro Florenzi officially announced on Wednesday that he would end his 14-year professional career effective immediately.

The 34-year-old Florenzi primarily plays at right back, but can also operate in various positions, including central midfielder, right midfielder, and right winger. He came through the Roma youth system and made his Serie A debut for the first team on May 22, 2011.

Due to limited playing time, Florenzi was loaned to Crotone for a season two months after his debut. He then returned to Roma for eight seasons, making 278 appearances, scoring 28 goals and providing 32 assists.

In his final year at Roma, Florenzi was loaned out to Valencia and Paris Saint-Germain, where he made 50 appearances for both clubs, winning the Coupe de France and the Trophée des Champions.

In August 2021, Florenci joined AC Milan on a loan-to-buy basis. To date, he has made 77 appearances for AC Milan, scoring 3 goals and providing 7 assists, winning the 2021/22 Serie A title with the team.

As for the national team, Florenci has made 49 appearances for Italy, contributing 2 goals and 3 assists. He was also a key member of the Italian national team that won the 2021 European Championship.

In his farewell statement, Florenzi expressed his deep gratitude for everything he had experienced during his career. He wrote: "Thank you for everything, my football friends. You taught me to love every fan, from the first to the last, without exception."

"It is each of you who constantly pushes me to improve and helps me pick myself up when I face setbacks. Setbacks are part of football, as they are part of life. For that, I sincerely thank you all."

"I want to thank every single one of my teammates, coaches, staff and management, without exception: it's your support and professionalism every day that allows me to continue to grow as a man and a player."

"Thank you, Ale (Alessio Ceccarelli, CEO of WSA Agency). 17 years ago, you saw something special in that little guy in the middle of the field. You and the WSA family have always been, are and will always be an integral part of my life, not just in football."

"Finally, I want to thank everyone who has been with me on this long journey, especially those who have made unwavering contributions behind the scenes: each and every one of you has left a profound mark on me. Without you, I would not be who I am today."

"Thank you again, my football friend: today we say goodbye to each other, but you will always be a part of my life."
