After defeating Premier League champions Liverpool 3-2, Brighton coach Fabian Hurzeler expressed his high praise for the team after the game and stressed that team spirit and mentality are the key to victory.
"I'm really proud of the team," Schürzell said. "This season has been full of ups and downs, and the most important thing at this moment is not to celebrate too much, but to stay humble and focused. We still have one game to play, but I want to say tonight, I'm proud of this team."
"Liverpool's goal was a wake-up call for us but the players quickly turned up the intensity and that was exactly the reaction I wanted to see."
In addition, Schurzeller specifically praised several key players, including Matt O'Reilly and Jack Hinshelwood who came on as substitutes: "Although they did not start, they showed the mentality that professional players should have. They contributed to the team as soon as they came on the court, and that's exactly what they did."
"This was Brajan Gruda's best performance since joining the team. He is far away from his family and comes from a foreign country, but he never gives up. He goes all out in every training session and keeps proving himself. Tonight's goal is the best reward for his efforts."
Talking about Brighton's style of using young players, Schurzeller did not shy away from it: "For me, age has never been a decisive factor. As long as you are good enough, you deserve the opportunity. That's why I let Harry Howell play, and he did play very well and made an immediate impact."
After defeating Liverpool, Brighton once again proved with practical actions that they are not only technically mature, but also have resilience and cohesion. Although Brighton can no longer compete for the qualification for the European Cup next season, the team still hopes to end this season with a victory.
