Bournemouth's Ghanaian international winger Antoine Semenyo's contract includes a £65 million release clause that can be triggered in January..

The Athletic's resident renowned English transfer journalist David Ornstein, exclusively reported on Wednesday that Bournemouth's Ghanaian international winger Antoine Semenyo's contract includes a £65 million release clause that can be triggered in January.

According to Ornstein, Semenyo, who had only just renewed his contract with Bournemouth in July, has included a release clause in his new contract that allows him to potentially leave the club during the January transfer window.

This clause is only available to interested clubs during the first two weeks of January and consists of a fixed fee of £60 million plus £5 million in add-ons.

In the third week of January, the release clause will automatically close. After that, any club interested in signing Semenyo must submit an offer of at least £70 million to have a chance of signing the player, allowing Bournemouth ample time to find a replacement.

However, in this upcoming summer transfer window, Bournemouth has made an exception for other clubs, allowing them to sign Semenyo for a release clause slightly above £50 million.

Furthermore, Ornstein revealed that Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool have all expressed strong interest in signing Semenyo.

Both Manchester City and Spurs enquired about the player's transfer during this summer's transfer window, but the Cherries rejected all offers at the time.

Compared to the aforementioned two clubs, Ornstein said that Liverpool have long been interested in signing Semenyo.

He revealed that the Reds had already began closely monitoring Semenyo as early as last summer after sporting director Richard Hughes took over.

Liverpool have been waiting for the right opportunity to try and sign Semenyo, viewing him as one of the future successors to its legendary Egypt international right winger Mohamed Salah.

In any case, it's too early to discuss which club Semenyo is most likely to join, and the possibility of other overseas clubs joining the race for his transfer cannot be ruled out.

About Antoine Semenyo
