Al-Ahli announced on their official website on Thursday that the club have extended the contract of its Turkey international defender Merih Demiral, who had formerly played for Juventus.
According to Al-Ahli's official statement, Demiral has signed on a new long-term four-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2029.
About Merih Demiral
The 27-year-old Demiral was born on March 5, 1998, in Karamürsel, Kocaeli Province, Turkey. He is 1.90 meters tall and plays as a centre-back.
Demiral joined Fenerbahçe's youth academy at the age of 13, but before graduating, he was transferred to Portuguese non-league club Alcanenense and then completed his first-team debut for them in 2016.
The following summer, Demiral moved to Sporting Clube de Portugal.
In August 2018, Demiral was loaned-out to Alanyaspor, with his ownership rights being permanently purchased for €3.5 million in January of the following year.
The following January, Demiral was loaned-out to Sassuolo. During his time there, his outstanding performances attracted the attention of several top Serie A clubs.
In July 2019, Demiral joined Juventus for €18 million.
During his two-year spell with I Bianconeri, Demiral helped the club win the Serie A title, the Coppa Italia, and the Supercoppa Italiana once each.
In August 2021, Demiral joined Atalanta on-loan with an obligation to buy deal. His ownership rights was permanently purchased for €20 million in August of the following year.
In August 2023, Demiral joined Al-Ahli for €17 million.
Since joining Al-Ahli, Demiral has made 81 appearances for the Saudi Pro League giants in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and providing 4 assists. During which he has won the Saudi Super Cup and the AFC Champions League Elite once each with the club.
