Daily Mail: Tonali has renewed his contract with Newcastle United until 2029, with an option to extend for one year

According to Craig Hope, chief football reporter for the Daily Mail, Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali has signed a new contract with Newcastle United. The new contract will run from 2028 to June 30, 2029, with the club having the option to extend it unilaterally for 12 months.

Hope went on to point out that Tonali's contract extension was finalized secretly during his suspension period and was led by Newcastle's then-sporting director Dan Ashworth. It is reported that the player's move was intended to repay Newcastle United for their full trust and support during his suspension.

In October 2023, Tonali was sentenced to a 10-month global ban by the Italian Public Prosecutor's Office for his involvement in illegal betting, and he was not allowed to return to the team until August 27, 2024. It was the unwavering support shown by Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, Dan Ashworth and other senior management during this period that strengthened Tonali's determination to renew his contract early.
