Former West Ham United manager David Moyes has been awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his outstanding services to English football.

The 62-year-old Scottish coach was named in the latest King's New Year Honours List and was recently awarded the honour by the Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle. Moyes' football career spans both as a player and a coach.

As a player, Moyes played for Celtic, Cambridge United, Bristol City, Shrewsbury, Dunfermline and Preston, making more than 550 appearances in total. He obtained coaching qualifications at the age of 22, demonstrating his advanced career planning.

In 1998, the 34-year-old Moyes started his coaching career. After coaching Preston for four years, he took over Everton in 2002 and started his 11-year coaching journey. Since then, he has coached Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland, and took charge of West Ham United for the first time in 2017.

During his two coaching periods at West Ham, Moyes successfully completed two relegation tasks, led the team to the Europa League semi-finals, and won the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League, bringing the club its first major trophy in 43 years. Moyes will leave after his contract expires in the summer of 2024 and return to Everton in early 2025.

Moyes has coached 716 Premier League games so far, ranking third in history after Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger. He has won the title of the Professional Managers Association (LMA) of the Year three times.

At the award ceremony, Moyes said emotionally: "Receiving the OBE medal today is an unforgettable moment for me and my family. My father was awarded the MBE medal, and now I have also been recognized. Our family feels extremely proud."
