Paulo Giannis officially takes over as Wolfsburg head coach, signing with the club until 2027

Paulo Giannis has officially taken over as head coach of Wolfsburg Football Club and will start coaching from the 2025-26 season. The Dutch coach has just led the Go Ahead Eagles to the team's first major trophy in 92 years and finished seventh in the Eredivisie. He has signed a contract with Wolfsburg until June 30, 2027.

In addition to veteran goalkeeping coach Pascal Forman continuing to stay, Paul Simonis' coaching team also includes Tristan Berghuis, Peter van der Feyn and Martin Darneville. Wolfsburg club announced that Paul Simonis will officially debut in early July.

Announcing the appointment, Wolfsburg's general manager of sport Peter Christiansen said: "After a thorough and detailed search process, we have finally selected Paulo Giannis. He fully meets all our criteria."

“Paulo Giannis has demonstrated a high level of professionalism. We have a high degree of consensus on tactical concepts, game performance and club reconstruction. He is passionate and energetic, and pays attention to details. We look forward to working with him to open a new chapter.”

Paul Simonis is looking forward to this coaching opportunity. He said: "I can't wait to accept this challenge and get to know the team, the coaching staff and the overall environment of the club. After many in-depth exchanges with Peter Christiansen, Sebastian Sinzillots and Sebastian Rudolf, I firmly believe that this is the place I should come. I am very much looking forward to being able to display my talents in this strong top league team."

Paulo Giannis took over as Go Ahead Eagles head coach last summer but he quickly led the team to the club's first championship trophy in 92 years. In the Dutch Cup final, Go Ahead Eagles defeated the favorites Alkmaar 4-2 on penalties.

The Dutch coach led Deventer to a seventh place in the Eredivisie. Before becoming the head coach, Paul Simonis worked as an assistant coach at Go Ahead Eagles and Heerenveen. His coaching career began in 2005, when he first served as a youth training coach at Sparta Rotterdam for 15 years. In 2017, he took over the U17 team and was promoted to U19 coach the following year.
