Gary Rowett has confirmed that Jordan James has returned to his club early for treatment after sustaining an injury during international duty. The midfielder, on loan from Leicester City, was substituted after 56 minutes in Wales' World Cup play-off semi-final against Bosnia and Herzegovina and therefore missed the subsequent friendly against Northern Ireland.
Leicester City manager Gary Rowett said: "He obviously went back to the club for treatment and landed a little awkwardly. But it wasn't nearly as serious as some people thought at the time, when everyone even thought it might be worse. He's recovering well. He didn't train today, but many internationals either didn't train today or haven't rejoined the team yet. We'll talk to him and see if he's fit to play."
"If we talk to Jordan James, he'll insist, like most players, that he's available to play. That's certainly a positive sign, but we'll also try to balance things between the two games and make sure that if he's good in the first game, he's also available in the second. We'll communicate about that, but it will be a positive discussion, not sitting here and asserting that he can't play in either game."
In addition, Yannick Westergaard and Aaron Ramsey continue to train in West Greve, while center-back Harry Suttal played a few minutes in an intra-squad friendly to speed up his recovery.
Gary Rowett said: “We are very fortunate that the way the team works and the good working relationship with the medical department have made everything go smoothly, which has also ensured that we can make the right decisions for the players. Some players are about to return. Yannick Westergaard has been training for some time and is in good condition. Aaron Ramsey has also been performing well in training and his condition has been stable.”
“Harry Suthar is currently playing, and I estimate he played for 45 minutes. This again shows that he is steadily moving towards a return, after all, he has been out for a long time. Some players have had less rest than others because we think it is important to give them rest, such as Yannick Vestergaard, Harry Suthar, and Aaron Ramsey. These players also understand the need for extra training, which I think is a very positive sign.”
