The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) announced on its official website Thursday that national team head coach, legendary former Dutch international forward Patrick Kluivert has been sacked.
According to the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI)'s official statement, after open, transparent, and respectful discussions, both parties have agreed to end their partnership.
Despite the end of their relationship, the FIFA expresses its gratitude to Kluivert and his coaching team for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment during their tenure, and wishes him well in the future.
In addition, Kluivert's assistant coaching team will be sacked immediately.
He will no longer be involved in any of the Indonesia national team, U23, or U20 national teams.
Kluivert, 49, became the new head coach of the Indonesian national team in January of this year, replacing South Korean coach Shin Tae-yong.
At that time, the two parties signed on a two-year contract, with his primary focus being to lead the team to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in United States, Canada and Mexico.
Since Kluivert took over, the Indonesian Football Association has increased its focus on naturalizing as many Dutch foreign players of Indonesian descent into the national team.
During the October 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers window, the Garuda Team squad included only five Indonesian-born players in its 23-man squad.
Of the remaining players, a staggering 17 were Dutch-born foreign players.
Even captain Jordi Amat is a Spanish-born player who previously played for Swansea City in the Premier League.
However, after losses to Saudi Arabia and Iraq last weekend, Indonesia missed out on qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in
United States, Canada and Mexico.
