In the UEFA Europa League final in Wroclaw, Chelsea, under the command of new coach Enzo Maresca, exploded in the second half and eventually defeated Real Betis 4-1.
At the beginning of the game, Betis quickly got into the game. In the 9th minute, Isco, who was in excellent form, had a flash of inspiration and sent a pass without looking at anyone in front of the penalty area. Abdusamad Ezarzuli made a high-speed run and shot into the goal, helping Betis lead 1-0. Throughout the first half, Betis controlled the rhythm, while Chelsea's offense seemed disorganized and almost made no progress.
At halftime, Maresca made a decisive adjustment, replacing the struggling Marlo Gusto with captain Reece James. This move quickly paid off. James's appearance brought the entire right wing to life, while Cole Palmer was given more free space in the second half and became the core figure of Chelsea's comeback.
In the 65th minute, Palmer sent a wonderful drop cross in the half space, Enzo Fernandez touched the ball lightly in front of the goal and sent the ball into the far corner, the score was tied 1-1. Just 5 minutes later, Palmer created another killing opportunity on the wing. This time he kicked the ball from the bottom line and Nicola Jaxon knocked the ball into the goal with his upper arm. The referee confirmed the goal after VAR confirmation, and Chelsea overtook 2-1!
With the situation on the field completely reversed, Chelsea took full control of the game. In the 85th minute, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who came on as a substitute, quickly advanced after successfully stealing the ball in the frontcourt and passed the ball to Sancho on the right. The latter cut inside to the top of the penalty area and shot into the goal, the ball went straight to the far corner, and the score was extended to 3-1.
In the injury time, Moises Caicedo seized the opportunity at the edge of the penalty area and scored a low shot, locking the score at 4 to 1. The Blues thus completely ended the suspense of the game.
With this comeback victory, Chelsea not only won the first UEFA Cup trophy in the club's history, but more importantly, they completed the "Grand Slam" of the three major European club competitions - the Blues had previously won the Champions League and Europa League in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
