A new season brings both new challenges and fresh opportunities. Liam Delap knows this all too well, as this will be his first full season as a Chelsea player. The young striker joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town in June and, just two weeks later, travelled to the United States with the team for the Club World Cup. The journey was not only rewarding, but also helped him develop a deeper understanding and bond with his new teammates.  

Liam Delap made his Chelsea debut against Los Angeles Football Club, providing an assist and demonstrating his adaptability. He then scored his first Chelsea goal against Tunis Football Club, opening his scoring account. Delap subsequently played in the round of 16, quarter-finals, and final, contributing significantly to Chelsea's World Cup victory.  

Chelsea's victory in the United States resulted in a shortened pre-season schedule. Most of the team returned to Cobham on August 4th, following two friendly matches against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan to prepare for the new season. Liam Delap admitted that this arrangement was unusual, but it would not affect their performance in the opening match against Crystal Palace. He also acknowledged that being a world champion comes with its own challenges.  

Liam Delap said: “It’s a special feeling and a new challenge we have to face. Our opponents will give their all to us, but we are fully prepared and determined to fight to the end and show what a great team we are.”  

The striker made his debut at Stamford Bridge against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan, scoring twice against AC Milan as he enjoyed a home victory for the first time.  

Esteban Willian and Joao Pedro have also impressed in pre-season, while Jamie Gittens has been in good form since joining Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund last month.  

He said: "They are indeed skilled players, and I believe they will bring more joy and exciting games to the team. Of course, the team is very strong and we have some very talented players. To compete for the championship among the fiercely competitive teams, it is crucial to maintain competitiveness and lineup depth. I must do my best, and so will they. I hope we can work together to lead the team to achieve our goals."
