Al-Hilal announced on their official website on Sunday that the club have extended the contract of its Portugal international defensive midfielder Rúben Neves.

According to Al-Hilal's official statement, Neves has signed on a new three-and-a-half-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2029.

This extension effectively dispels rumours claiming that Neves had decided to join Manchester United this summer.

About Rúben Neves

The 28-year-old Neves was born on March 13, 1997, in Mozelos, Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal. He is 1.80 meters tall and plays as a defensive midfielder.

Neves joined Porto's youth academy at the age of eight and completed his first-team Porto first-team debut in August 2014, scoring in the match to become the youngest goalscorer in Portuguese Premiera Liga history.

Five days later, he made his Champions League debut, breaking the record to become the youngest Portuguese player to debut in the Champions League since Cristiano Ronaldo.

The following October, Neves was appointed captain of Porto, breaking the record to become the youngest captain in Champions League history since 2003.

In July 2017, Neves joined Wolverhampton Wanderers for £15.8 million.

During his six-year spell with Wolves, Neves won the EFL Championship once and even qualified for the Europa League once, attracting the attention of several top European clubs.

In June 2023, Neves joined Al-Hilal for £47 million, becoming Wolves' most expensive departing player at the time.

Since joining Al-Hilal, Neves has made 116 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing 30 assists. During which has helped the club win the Saudi Super Cup twice, the Saudi Pro League title once, and the Saudi King's Cup once, and reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup once.
