Xavi: I really want to play in the Premier League and coach the national team

Xavi Fernandez said on Thursday he is open to a future as a Premier League or international coach.
Xavi, 45, is the core midfielder of Spain's golden generation. During his playing career, he helped the national team win one World Cup (2010) and two European Cups (2008, 2012). He also won four Champions League titles, two Club World Cup titles, eight La Liga titles, two European Super Cup titles, three Copa del Rey titles, and six Spanish Super Cup titles with Barcelona. He retired in July 2019 and then started his coaching career at Qatar's Sadd Club.
In November 2021, Xavi returned to Barcelona as head coach. He led the Red and Blues for three seasons, during which he led the team to a record of 91 wins, 23 draws and 29 losses, winning the La Liga championship and the Spanish Super Cup once each.
However, Xavi has been unemployed since leaving Barcelona in June last year. In an exclusive interview with TA on Thursday, he expressed his willingness to continue coaching and was inclined to find a long-term and secure project.
"Of course I want to return to coaching, but I haven't decided where to go yet," Xavi said. "I'm not in a hurry, but I want a good project. Like, 'You have four years to build and implement a project'. I'd love to play in the Premier League because there's so much passion there. In Spain, people are too focused on results."
He went on to point out: "Look at what happened to Ancelotti. People criticized him unfairly. He won 30 titles in 10 years, but he was criticized for nothing. As Valverde said: 'If even Ancelotti is criticized, what hope is there for the rest of us?' But in Spain, especially at Barcelona and Real Madrid, the pressure to coach is very high."
"Take Maresca at Chelsea, for example. It's a good project. Or Arteta, who has been coaching Arsenal for six seasons. Despite the difficult times, the club has always believed in his coaching philosophy and continued to support him. Now he is doing well. This is almost unimaginable in Spain."
Xavi is also very interested in coaching the national team: "The national team project is very attractive. When I dreamed of becoming a coach, I looked forward to leading the team to the World Cup or the European Cup."
"As for the Spanish national team, there may be opportunities in the future. I am not anxious. I am not obsessed with an immediate comeback. Now, I just want to watch the game quietly and enjoy spending time with my family."
