Crystal Palace have accepted that captain Marc Gueye could leave the club at any time, Sky Sports reported on Thursday.
Guei, 25, was born in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, and moved to London with his family at the age of one. He grew up in Chelsea's youth system and made his first-team debut in the EFL Cup on September 25, 2019.
Due to a lack of playing time, Guehi moved to Crystal Palace for £18 million in July 2021. He has since grown into an indispensable center back for Crystal Palace, making 164 appearances across all competitions, scoring 9 goals and providing 4 assists, and winning an FA Cup with the team.
With his outstanding performance on the field, Gueye successfully attracted the attention of Liverpool. He was close to joining Liverpool and even completed a medical examination before the transfer deadline, but the deal was eventually stopped by the club.
Crystal Palace's move disappointed Guey, who immediately rejected the club's offer to renew his contract. Given that Guey's contract at Crystal Palace expires in June next year, his departure is almost certain.
Sky Sports further reports that Liverpool remains open to renewing their bid for Gueye in January, but Crystal Palace will not release him at a low price in the winter transfer window. Gueye can also sign a preliminary contract with an overseas club in January, and several European giants are closely monitoring his progress. Regardless, Gueye will leave Crystal Palace on a free transfer at the end of the 2025/26 season at the latest.
