Official: Bournemouth extend captain Adam Smith's contract until 2027

Bournemouth announced on Thursday that they have extended the contract of captain Adam Smith. The new contract extends the original summer expiry date by one year, until June 30, 2027.

The 34-year-old Smith came through Tottenham Hotspur's youth academy but failed to secure regular first-team playing time. Early in his career, he was loaned to Wycombe Wanderers, Torquay United, Bournemouth, Milton Keynes Dons, Leeds United, Millwall, and Derby County, forging a strong connection with Bournemouth.

In January 2014, Smith permanently transferred from Tottenham Hotspur to Bournemouth. He primarily plays as a right-back at Bournemouth, making 418 appearances to date, scoring 6 goals and providing 35 assists.

Following the contract extension, Bournemouth's Chief Operating Officer Thiago Pinto said, "Adam has consistently maintained a high level of performance, delivering a stable performance for the team every week."

"After more than a decade with Bournemouth, he has become the embodiment of the club's DNA, and his leadership qualities are evident. He has proven to young players that hard work will eventually pay off, and we look forward to him playing for the team for another year."

Smith also expressed his joy at the contract extension in a statement: "I am delighted to have renewed my contract with Bournemouth and continue my journey at this special club. I am incredibly proud to be a part of the team and sincerely thank the club for their trust in me.
