Barcelona announced on its official website on Tuesday that the club has extended the contract of its Spain U19s international defensive midfielder wonderkid Marc Bernal.

According to Barcelona's official statement, Bernal has signed on a new long-term four-year deal which runs until the summer of 2029. In accordance with La Liga regulations, his buyout clause has been increased to €500 million.

Following this contract extension, all rumours circulating for months which our "Daily Slap in the Face Party" regular Chinese representiatives, Dong Qiu Di an Zhiboba, have claimed that Bernal would join Chelsea during the upcoming January transfer window, have been dispelled.

About Marc Bernal

Bernal, who is only still 18, was born on May 26, 2007, in Berga, Catalonia, Spain. He stands 1.93 meters tall and plays as a defensive midfielder.

Bernal joined the youth academy of his hometown club, Berga, at a young age. In 2013, he joined the youth academy of non-league club Gimnasia Manresa, and the following year, he joined Barcelona's renowned La Masia youth academy. He began playing for the Barça B team in 2023 and completed his Barcelona first-team debut in a match against Valencia the following August.

However, a month later, Bernal suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament rupture, and was ruled out for the entire year. He returned to action in September 2025 against the same opponent, where he recorded one assist.

Since his debut, Bernal has made 5 appearances for the Blaugrana in all competitions, providing one assist and helping them win the La Liga title once.
