Serie A transfer window summary: Inter Milan sends Pavard away, Vardy joins Cremona on a free transfer

The 2025/26 Serie A summer transfer window officially closed on September 1st. Several top Serie A teams rushed to complete their signings and outgoings before the closing, with Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus among the top clubs making their final roster adjustments.

Inter Milan

As the summer transfer window nears, Inter Milan announced that it will loan 29-year-old French central defender Benjamin Pavard to Marseille. Pavard will play for Marseille until the end of the season, with an optional buyout clause worth 15 million euros in his contract.

Fabrizio Romano went on to point out that Pavard's salary during the loan period will be fully covered by Marseille.

At the same time as sending Pavard away, Inter Milan rented 30-year-old Swiss central defender Manuel Akanji from Manchester City. They paid Manchester City a loan fee of 2 million euros for this, and the contract included a buyout clause worth 15 million euros.

AC Milan

AC Milan also completed several transactions on the closing day. They first introduced 30-year-old French midfielder Adrien from Marseille and signed him to a "3+1" contract.

As for Rabiot's transfer fee, Le Parisien estimates it to be around 10 million euros. His annual salary at Milan is reportedly 5.5 million euros.

Milan's second new signing is 19-year-old German central defender David Odoggu from Wolfsburg. The two sides signed a four-year contract with an option to renew until June 30, 2030.

According to Matteo Moretto and other journalists, Odoggu's transfer fee is approximately €10 million. He will wear the number 27 jersey at AC Milan.

While completing the signings, AC Milan also made adjustments to its existing squad. According to an official statement, 20-year-old Spanish defender Alex Jimenez, 26-year-old Nigerian winger Samuel Chukueze, and 22-year-old American midfielder Yunus Moussa all departed the club on loan, joining Bournemouth, Fulham, and Atalanta, respectively. All three players' contracts included buyout clauses, with Chukueze and Moussa's buyouts set at €25 million.

Juventus

All signs indicate that Juventus is focusing on strengthening its attacking line this summer. They first signed 26-year-old Kosovar right winger Edon Žegrova from Lille on a four-year contract, paying a transfer fee of €14.3 million over four years. This fee also includes a €1.2 million agent fee and a variable clause of less than €3 million.

On the same day that Jerzy Žegrova joined, 25-year-old Belgian striker Reus Openda also joined on loan from RB Leipzig. According to official documents released by Juventus, Openda's loan fee is €3.3 million, plus an additional €800,000 in variable bonuses. Furthermore, his buyout clause is €40.6 million, which is enforceable upon meeting certain conditions.

The official also confirmed that Žegrova and Oponda will wear the No. 11 and No. 20 jerseys respectively at Juventus.

Juventus then loaned 27-year-old Argentine striker Nicolas Gonzalez to Atletico Madrid. Gonzalez's contract includes a buyout clause worth 32 million euros, which will be enforced if certain conditions are met.

Naples

As for Napoli, they officially announced the loan of 22-year-old Danish center forward Rasmus Hoylen from Manchester United for €6 million. The deal includes a mandatory buyout clause worth a total of €44 million, which will be automatically triggered if Napoli qualifies for the Champions League next season.

Cremona

It is worth mentioning that former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy joined newly promoted Serie A side Macraméona on a free transfer just before the transfer window closed. The two sides signed a contract until June 30, 2026, with an option to extend for another year.

This is also Vardy's first time playing in an overseas league in his career. He previously played for Leicester City for 13 years, during which time he made 500 appearances, scored 200 goals and provided 71 assists, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Community Shield with the team.
