Podbrezova announced on its official website on Wednesday that the club has triggered the buyout clause of on-loan Slovakia international right wing-back Peter Kovacik from Como.

According to Podbrezova's official statement, Kovacik has signed on a short-term contract with the club, which expires at the end of the season.

In addition, according to Sky Sports' renowned Italian transfer reporter Nicolo Schira, Kovacik's buyout clause was automatically triggered after he reached 20 appearances.

Furthermore, with Kovacik's contract expiring soon, the Serie A dark horse agreed to let him return to Podbrezova on a free transfer.

Notably, this marks Kovacik has joined Podbrezova for the third time in his career.

About Peter Kovacik

The 23-year-old Kovacik was born on December 1, 2001, in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, primarily plays as a right wing-back, but he can also play as a right midfielder or right winger.

Kovacik attended the academy run by former Slovakia and Napoli legendary international midfielder Marek Hamsik as a child. In 2016, he was introduced to Podbrezova's youth academy and made completed his Podbrezova first-team debut in July 2022.

During his 2-year spell at Podbrezova, Kovacik helped the team win the Slovak Second Division once.

In July 2024, Kovacic joined Como for €500,000 but was immediately loaned out to Jagiellonia Bialystok.

On this year's winter transfer window deadline day, Kovacik returned to Podbrezova on-loan deal with an option to buy.

Last season, Kovacik made 14 appearances for the Slovakian Nike Liga dark horse in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing one assist, nearly helping the club secure an shock qualification for the UEFA Conferece League.
