Russian national team coach Valery Karpin stated after the friendly match against Mali that although the team failed to win, their overall performance was almost entirely satisfactory. He discussed the importance of the missed penalty opportunity, evaluated the team's overall performance, and specifically commented on the performance of the center-backs.

Valery Karpin, when discussing the players' development over the past year and a half, said: "It's inaccurate to simply point out who has improved the most. Every training camp is different. Although we won, I wasn't satisfied with the team's performance. Today, although we didn't score, almost everything was satisfactory overall. The defense was solid, the attack was threatening, and the mission was accomplished. We didn't give the opponent any chances and successfully created our own attacks. We had two long-range shots in the second half that were on target, but they weren't very threatening. Overall, the performance was excellent; the only regret is that we didn't capitalize on our opportunities."

Speaking about the performance of newcomer Petrov in the match, Valery Karpin said: "Today Petrov, like the whole team, faced a test. Mali's defense was well-organized, they didn't concede easily, and they didn't give the opponent many opportunities. Compared to the match against Nicaragua, he performed better when the opponent had fewer players, which is quite natural."

Regarding the team's recent record of only one win in four matches, Valery Calpin said: "This is not discouraging. If we had won all four, it might have indicated a potential problem. Take the match against Peru as an example. They only had one shot on target the entire game, while we dominated possession and only conceded one goal, but failed to capitalize on our chances. If the team plays like they did against Nicaragua, but only wins one game, then that would be worrying."

Finally, regarding the summer friendlies, Valery Karpin revealed: "We already have a list of potential opponents, but the specific arrangements are not up to me. The official announcement will only be made after the Russian Football Union has completed all the signing of the necessary documents."
