Newcastle United announced on its official website on Tuesday that the club has extended the contract of its England international defender Dan Burn.

According to Newcastle's official statement, Burn has signed on a new short-term two-year deal which will only run until the summer of 2027.

After completing his contract extension procedures, Burn, who was interviewed by Newcastle United's official website again, said: "I am very happy to sign a new contract here. I know that I am about to enter the last year of my career and I really want to determine my future. I have said before that I really want to end my career here, so I am very grateful for this opportunity."

"I still feel that I am making progress, but I don't think I have reached my peak yet. It will be difficult to surpass this season, but hopefully we can do it in the next few years. It is my dream to play for this club and I am very happy to continue to work hard for it."

About Dan Burn

Burn, 33, was born in Ashington, England on May 9, 1992. He is 1.89 meters tall and primarily plays as a left back, but can also play as a center back.

Burn, who has been a loyal fan of Newcastle United since childhood, admired the team's former legendary England international center forward Alan Shearer very much. He joined the Newcastle United youth academy when he was young, but unfortunately he was released at the age of 11.

After leaving Newcastle United, Burn joined non-league club Blyth Spartan's youth academy. In 2009, he moved to the youth academy of Darlington, another non-league club, and completed his Darlington first-team debut in December of the same year.

Courtesy of his good performances, Burn joined Fulham for £350,000 in July 2011.

In order to get more opportunities to hone his skills, Burn was loaned-out to Yeovil Town and Birmingham City from September 2012 to January 2014, helping the former to reach the play-offs in the 2012/13 season.

After returning to the club at the end of his loan spell, Burn immediately made his Fulham first-team debut on January 4, 2014, and gradually established himself in Fulham's first-team with his outstanding performances.

After leaving the club when his contract expires in the summer of 2016, Burn joined Wigan Athletic as a free agent, but failed to successfully prevent the club from being relegated. Despite this, he helped the club win the EFL League One and return to the EFL Championship the following year.

In August 2018, Burn moved to Brighton for £3 million.

During his three-and-a-half-year spell with the Seagulls, Burn and captain Lewis Dunk formed a strong defensive partnership that successfully pushed Brighton step by step into the ranks of the Premier League dark horses.

On the 2022 winter transfer window deadline dat, Burn returned to Newcastle United for £13 million and quickly became one of the biggest contributors to the club's successful relegation battle.

Since returning to the Magpies, Burn has played 149 times for the new Premier League giants in all competitions, scoring 8 goals, providing 4 assists, and winning the Carabao Cup once with the club.
