Hellas Verona announced on their official website on Friday that Monza's Italy international defensive midfielder Roberto Gagliardini has joined the club on a free transfer after his contract had expired.

According to the Serie A club's official statement, Gagliardini has signed a on a short-term one-year deal which will only run until the end of the season. The club may trigger an extension clause in Gagliardini's contract depending on his appearances and performances.

About Roberto Gagliardini

Roberto Gagliardini, 31, was born on April 7, 1994, in Bergamo, Italy. He is 1.9 meters tall and primarily plays as a defensive midfielder, but he can also play as a center back.

Gagliardini joined Atalanta's youth academy at the age of 7 and completed his Atalanta first-team debut in the Coppa Italia match against Sassuolo in December 2013.

In January of the following year, Gagliardini was loaned-out to Cesena, during which he won the Serie B promotion play-offs with the club.

In September 2014, Gagliardini was loaned-out to Spezia, during which he led the team to the semi-finals of the Serie B promotion play-offs.

In July 2015, Gagliardini was loaned-out to Vicenza, during which he helped the club successfully avoid relegation.

After returning to the club following his loan ended in the summer of the following year, Gagliardini officially became one of the key players in Atalanta's first-team.

In January 2017, Gagliardini joined Inter Milan on-loan with an option to buy, and his rights were later bought out for €23 million in the summer of the following year. 

During his six-and-a-half year spell at I Nerazzurri, Gagliardini won the Serie A once, the Coppa Italia twice, the Supercoppa Italiana twice, and reached the Champions League final once and the Europa League final once with the club. 

After his contract expired in the summer of 2023, Gagliardini joined Monza on a free transfer.

During his two-year spell at Monza, Gagliardini made 42 appearances for the Serie B club in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
