Parma announced on Thursday that Carlos Cuesta will replace Cristian Chivu as the first team coach from today. The two sides signed a contract until June 2027, plus an option for one year to renew.

Carlos Cuesta, 29, was born in Mallorca, Spain. He has served as an assistant coach at Atletico Madrid U17 and Juventus U17. He has played for Arsenal as an assistant coach since August 2020, assisting Mikel Arteta in 261 games in five years.

Taking over the Parma coaching position this time makes Cuesta the youngest coach in Serie A in the 21st century. He thus surpassed the 32-year-old Brighton coach Fabian Schurzeller and became the youngest coach in the top five leagues.

Before leaving, Cuesta issued a statement to bid farewell to Arsenal. He wrote in the statement: "After five wonderful years, there are no words to express my feelings at this moment. I can only express my deep gratitude for being able to accompany such special people day and night and deeply understand what it means to represent this football club with such extraordinary history and values."
