Atletico Madrid officially announced the signing of Atalanta attacker Lookman, with Vargas and Mendoza also joining the team at the same time.

Atletico Madrid officially announced on Monday that Ademola Lookman has joined the club from Atalanta. The two sides signed a four-and-a-half-year contract, running until June 30, 2030.
According to multiple media reports, the transfer fee for Lookman is €35 million plus €5 million in add-ons. RB Leipzig, Lookman's former club, will also receive 15% of the transfer fee.
The 28-year-old Lookman was born in Wandsworth, southwest of London, to Nigerian parents. He has played for several clubs including Charlton Athletic, Everton, RB Leipzig, Fulham, and Leicester City, before transferring to Atalanta in 2022 for €16.1 million.
During his four years at Atalanta, Lookman was able to play in multiple positions, including second striker, center forward, winger, and attacking midfielder. To date, he has made 137 appearances for Atalanta, scoring 55 goals and providing 27 assists, and helped the team win the 2024 Europa League title.
Lookman also made 41 appearances for the Nigerian national team, contributing 11 goals and 9 assists.
In addition to signing Lookman, Atletico Madrid also signed two players in quick succession just before the winter transfer window closed. They are 20-year-old Mexican central midfielder Obeid Vargas from Seattle Sounders and 20-year-old Spanish central midfielder Rodrygo Mendoza from Elche.
It is understood that Vargas' transfer fee was approximately €3 million. He has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Atletico Madrid, valid until June 30, 2030.
As for Mendoza, various media outlets have confirmed that his transfer fee is €16 million. He will play for Atletico Madrid for five and a half years, until June 30, 2031.
