According to NBA insider Jack Fisher on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Clippers currently have no intention of trading Ivica Zubac. TA's Sam Amick also expressed a similar view on FanDuel's "Run it Back" show.
Zubac, 28, is a 2.13-meter tall, 109-kilogram Bosnian center who was selected 32nd overall in the first round of the 2016 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. He played two and a half seasons with the Lakers, appearing in 114 regular season games and averaging 6.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game.
In February 2019, Zubac was traded from the Lakers to the Clippers. To date, he has played 494 regular season games for the Clippers, averaging 11.4 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.
The Clippers had a poor start to the season, finishing second-to-last in the Western Conference with a 6-18 record after 24 rounds. Despite this, Zubac has still managed to put up averages of 15.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game, demonstrating considerable consistency.
Furthermore, Zubac delivered the best performance of his career last season: he played a total of 80 games in the regular season, averaging 16.8 points, 12.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game. This earned him a spot on the NBA All-Defensive Second Team.
Despite the potential interest from multiple teams, the Clippers are not currently considering initiating trade negotiations with Zubac. He currently has a three-year, $58.65 million contract, which is not only highly cost-effective for the Clippers but also offers a relatively reasonable salary structure.
Fisher went on to say he doesn't expect the Clippers to consider trading James Harden or Kawhi Leonard in the near future. Amick jokingly noted that Clippers owner Steve Ballmer has an "inexplicable, almost insane obsession" with the current roster.
