On August 22 , according to NBA jersey reporter Etienne Catalan, Clint Capela, who returned to the Houston Rockets through a trade during the offseason, will wear the No. 30 jersey in the new season.
Capela previously wore No. 15 for the Rockets for six seasons, but that number now belongs to rookie Reid Sheppard. As a key player for the team and considered a future core player, this also prompted Capela to choose a new number.
It's worth noting that the last time a Rockets player wore No. 30 was during the Kyle Wiltshire era. Capela will now begin his second Houston career with a new number. Although his role has shifted from a starting center to a rotational big man, his defense, pick-and-roll playmaking, and playoff experience are still expected to provide immediate impact for the young Rockets.
During his first stint with the Rockets, Capela averaged 12.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game, shooting 63.4% from the field , making him a prolific center. He formed a pick-and-roll partnership with James Harden and played a significant role in numerous playoff games.
Capela has signed a three- year, $21.5 million contract with the Rockets, and he will serve as Shin-Kyung's primary backup this season. For the Rockets, who are aiming to return to contention, Capela's veteran experience and stability may be exactly what the team needs.
