Ipswich Town Football Club is pleased to announce that goalkeeper Christian Walton has signed a contract extension with the club. His new contract will run until the summer of 2028, meaning Christian Walton will continue to play for the club at Portman Road for another two and a half years.
Since joining Ipswich Town from Brighton in the summer of 2021, Christian Walton has made 117 appearances for the team and has been a key member of the squad that helped them gain promotion from League One to the Premier League twice in a row.
In the 2022/23 season, he won the Golden Glove award while helping his team achieve promotion to League One, keeping 23 clean sheets that season. In his 19 appearances so far in the 2025/26 season, he has already kept 9 clean sheets. During his time at Portman Road, Christian Walton has accumulated 50 clean sheets.
Following the contract extension, manager Kieran McKenna said: "We are delighted that Christian Walton has chosen to extend his contract with the club. He has played for the team for many seasons, leaving behind many wonderful moments and experiencing some challenges. He has always demonstrated a high level of professionalism and dedication, which is of great importance to shaping the club culture."
"He's in good form right now and has been a key member of the defensive system in recent weeks. He forms a solid goalkeeping partnership with Alex Palmer and David Barton. The three of them inspire each other, are improving every day, and are committed to helping the team achieve its goals for the season."
Christian Walton said after signing his new contract: “I am very happy. The journey since I joined the club has been incredible, so being able to extend my contract for a few more years is very special for me.”
“I’ve been here for quite some time now. When I first joined, I hoped to settle down and develop my career at one club. At the time of signing, I didn’t fully realize the size and influence of this club. But looking back now, it has been a very valuable experience to be a part of it. I hope to maintain this connection and create many more special moments with the club.”
