Several prominent renowned Liverpool team correspondents from various British media outlets reported on Tuesday that Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi was disappointed after being informed at short notice that his transfer to Liverpool had been cancelled, having already completed his medical.
According to reports, Liverpool had reached an agreement with Crystal Palace on August 31st, the summer transfer window deadline day, to sign Guehi for £35 million.
To facilitate the transfer, Guehi had been forced to arrange his own transportation to Liverpool's office in London for his medical and even had his agent arrange a special flight with the Reds to Merseyside.
Unexpectedly, the transfer fell through at the last minute, after he had completed his medical, when Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner threatened to resign immediately if he was sold.
The Athletic added that in addition to Glasner, Crystal Palace's failure to sign Guehi's replacement due to a last-minute hijack by West Ham United also played a key role in the transfer's collapse.
That same day, Crystal Palace had already agreed to sign Brighton defender Igor Julio, but the Hammers suddenly hijacked and successfully secured the deal.
Not only was Guehi furious about the transfer's collapse, but Liverpool, which had already agreed personal terms with the player early last month, was also deeply disappointed.
According to reports from multiple media outlets' prominent renowned Crystal Palace team correspondents, Guehi, frustrated and disappointed, had already planned to resign as captain, further solidifying his intention to leave the Premier League club at the end of this season.
