Japanese international Ritsu Doan officially joins Frankfurt for €22 million

Eintracht Frankfurt announced on Thursday that Japanese right winger Ritsu Doan has joined from Freiburg. The two sides have signed a five-year contract, valid until June 30, 2030.
The official also confirmed that Ritsu Doan will wear the No. 20 jersey in Frankfurt.
According to multiple media reports, the base fee for the transfer is €21 million, but if variable clauses are included, the total could reach as high as €22 million.
Markus Kroescher, Eintracht Frankfurt's sports director, commented on Ritsu Doan's arrival: "Ritsu Doan has demonstrated impressive qualities in the Bundesliga in recent years and will help us achieve our goals. As a Japanese international, he has extensive international experience. During his time at Freiburg, he earned wide recognition for his skills, pace, and fighting spirit. We are delighted that Ritsu Doan has become one of our players."
The 27-year-old Doan Ritsu came through the youth academy of Gamba Osaka and made his professional debut for the first team in the AFC Champions League on May 27, 2015. He subsequently moved on to Groningen, PSV Eindhoven, and Bielefeld before joining Freiburg in July 2022 for €8.5 million.
To date, Doan Ritsu has made a total of 123 appearances for Freiburg, scoring 26 goals and providing 23 assists.
Doan has also excelled at the national team level. Since making his debut in September 2018, he has made 57 appearances for Japan, scoring 10 goals and providing 9 assists. He has also participated in two Asian Cups (2019 and 2024) and one World Cup (2022).
