It was a bit of a shame that our goal in the first half was disallowed, but after halftime we knew we had to keep going, and we did."

"Ultimately, a set piece decided the game, and we are very happy to accept this victory. There were probably 5,000 Borussia Mönchengladbach fans in the stadium, which was fantastic support. That makes our performance all the more gratifying. If we can bring that energy onto the pitch, we can compete with any opponent."

Kastrup said, "I think we played a very dominant game. Although Mainz found some rhythm in the final stages, we withstood the pressure for the entire 90 minutes. Even against their pressing, we performed well and our defense remained compact. With a few exceptions, we gave them almost no chances and kept another clean sheet. It certainly wasn't our most exciting game, but we won the contest."

Furthermore, Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Engelhardt stated, "We knew before the match that it could be complicated. Mainz was in a difficult situation, and playing away added to the challenge, and the result certainly lived up to our expectations. However, we handled it well and won a tough game, but sometimes those kinds of victories are the most enjoyable."
