Fiorentina announced on its official website on Wednesday that the club has signed Bosnia and Herzegovina international forward Edin Džeko and Italy U21s international midfielder Jacopo Fazzini from Fenerbahçe and Empoli respectively, and bought out the ownership rights of on-loan Iceland international forward Albert Guðmundsson from Genoa.

According to Fiorentina's official statement, Džeko has signed on a short-term one-year deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2026, with an option to extend for a further year; while Fazzini and Guðmundsson have both signed on a long-term four-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2029.

In addition, according to the news brought by Sky Sports' resident renowned Italian transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, I Viola paid a total of €17 million in transfer fees to Il Grifone" to buy out Guðmundsson's ownership rights.

About Edin Džeko

The 39-year-old Edin Džeko was born on March 17, 1986 in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is 1.93 meters tall and plays as a center forward.

Džeko joined the youth academy of his hometown club Željezničar since he was a child, and completed his first-team debut in a Europa League match in October 2003. At that time, he was actually a center midfielder.

In July 2005, Džeko moved to Teplice for €25,000 and was retrained as a center forward. Soon after, Džeko was loaned-out to the  Ústí nad Labem for further development.

After returning to the club at the end of his loan the following summer, Džeko gradually established himself as a key player in the first-team with his excellent goalscoring efficiency.

In July 2007, Džeko was signed to Wolfsburg for €4 million by reputable German head coach Felix Magath.

After joining Die Wolfe, Džeko's scoring efficiency became more and more terrifying. He even won a Golden Boot Award and won the Bundesliga once with his club.

In early January 2011, Džeko moved to Manchester City for a record-breaking £27 million, becoming the most expensive center forward in Bosnian football history.

During his 4-year spell with the Cityzens, Džeko won the Premier League twice, the FA Cup once, the English League Cup once and the English Community Shield once with the club.

In August 2015, Džeko joined Roma on-loan with an obligation to buy.

Despite not performing at his best, Roma agreed to buy out Džeko's ownership for a transfer fee of €11 million in October of the same year.

After becoming an official member of Roma, Džeko once again regained his top form, where he led the club to the Europa League round of 16 knockout stage once, and also won the Serie A Golden Boot once.

After leaving the club at the end of his contract in the summer of 2021, Džeko joined Inter Milan as a free agent. 

During his two-year spell with I Nerazzurri, Džeko won the Coppa Italia twice and the Supercoppa Italiana twice with club, as well as reching the Champions League final once.

After leaving the club at the end of his contract in the summer of 2023, Džeko joined Fenerbahçe as a free agent.

During his two-year spell with Sarı Kanaryalar, Džeko played 99 times for the Turkish Süper Lig giants in all competitions, scored 46 goals, assisted 18 times, and reached the UEFA Conference League quarterfinals once and the UEFA Europa League round of 16s once.

About Jacopo Fazzini

Jacopo Fazzini, who is only 22 years old, was born in Massa, Italy on March 16, 2003. He is 1.78 meters tall and plays as an attacking midfielder. His elder brother Tommaso is an international player of the Italian beach soccer team.

When he was a child, Fazzini played for the youth academies of non-league clubs Viareggio and Capezzano. In 2017, he joined Empoli's youth academy and completed his Empoli first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in the Coppa Italia match against Inter Milan in January 2022.

During his three-and-a-half-year spell at Empoli, Fazzini played 76 times for the club in all competitions, scoring 7 goals and providing 3 assists.

About Albert Guðmundsson

Albert Guðmundsson, 28, was born on June 15, 1997 in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. He is 1.77 meters tall and primarily plays as a center forward. He can also play as a left winger or attacking midfielder. His grandfather and mother are also former Icelandic international forwards.

Guðmundsson joined the youth training system of his hometown club Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur at the age of 9, joined the Heerenveen youth academy in 2013, and moved to the PSV Eindhoven youth academy two years later. In August 2017, he completed his PSV Eindhoven first-team debut by coming on as a substitute. During which he won the Eredivisie with the club.

In August of the following year, Guðmundsson moved to AZ Alkmaar for €1.5 million.

During his three-year spell at AZ, under the guidance of current Liverpool head coach Arne Slot, Guðmundsson's goalscoring efficiency increased significantly, becoming one of the best forwards in the Eredivisie.

On the 2021 winter transfer window deadline day, Guðmundsson joined Genoa for €2 million.

In August last year, Guðmundsson moved to Fiorentina on-loan witn an option to buy.

Last season, Guðmundsson played 33 times for the Serie A powerhouse in all competitions, scoring 8 goals and providing 3 assists, helping the club reach the UEFA Conference League semi-finals and the Coppa Italia round of 16s.
