Genoa announced on its official website on Sunday that former Wuhan Three Towns foreign player, Romania national team captain Nicolae Stanciu has joined the club as a free agent after leaving Damac after his contract expired.

According to the Serie A club's official statement, Stanciu has signed on a short-term two-year deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2027. At the same time, he will also wear the No. 8 jersey.

About Nicolae Stanciu

Nicolae Stanciu, 32, was born on May 7, 1993 in Cricău, Romania. He is 1.70 meters tall and primarily plays as an attacking midfielder. He can also play as a center midfielder or right midfielder.

Stanciu joined the youth academy of his hometown club Unirea Alba Iulia since he was a child, and completed his Unirea Alba Iulia first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in May 2008, when he was only 15 years old.

During his three-year spell with Unirea Alba Iulia, Stanciu won the Romanian Second Division once with the club.

On the 2011 summer transfer window deadline day, Stanciu moved to Vaslui for €200,000.

In March 2013, Stanciu joined Steaua Bucharest for €700,000.

During his three-year spell at Steaua Bucharest, Stanciu has won the Romanian First Division twice, the Romanian League Cup twice, the Romanian Cup once and the Romanian Super Cup once with the club.

At the end of August 2016, Stanciu joined Anderlecht for €7.8 million. During which, he won the Jupiler Pro League once and the Belgian Super Cup once with the club.

In January of the following year, Stanciu joined Sparta Prague for €4.5 million.

In January 2019, Stanciu joined Al-Ahli for €10 million.

Half a year later, Stanciu joined Slavia Prague for €4 million.

During his two-and-a-half-year spell at Slavia Prague, Stanciu won the Czech First League twice and the Czech Cup once with the club.

In February 2022, Stanciu joined Wuhan Three Towns for €3 million.

During his one-and-a-half-year spell with Three Towns, Stanciu unexpectedly completed the Chinese Super League and the Chinese FA Cup Double with the club.

In September of the following year, Stanciu joined Damac for €2.67 million.

During his one-and-a-half-year spell with Damac, Stanciu played 59 times for the Saudi Pro League club in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing 14 assists.
