According to ESPN salary expert Bobby Marks on Thursday, the San Antonio Spurs' contract extension with Victor Wimbledon is a done deal. The two sides are expected to sign a five-year, $252 million maximum contract extension on or after July 6th, with no room for negotiation.

Marks further pointed out that the new contract includes incentive clauses linked to league honors. If Wemban Yamaz is selected to the All-NBA Team, wins Defensive Player of the Year, or is named MVP in the 2026/27 season, his contract value could rise to $303.3 million. It's important to note that because Wemban Yamaz played fewer than 65 games last season, affecting his award eligibility, he will not be eligible for a starting salary of 30% of the salary cap in the first year of his contract extension, even if he meets those requirements this season.

The 22-year-old Viktor Axelsen turned professional in 2019 and joined the San Antonio Spurs as the number one overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft. As a 2.24-meter tall, 107-kilogram center, he has played 157 regular-season games to date, averaging 23.0 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.4 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game, and has won the NBA blocks title for two consecutive years.

However, Viktor Amar had already shown his talent before entering the NBA. He played for several domestic teams, including Nanterre 92, CFBB, ASVEL, and Mets 92, during which time he not only led his team to a LNB Elite League championship, but also won numerous individual honors such as MVP, scoring title, best defensive player, and block title.

Bobby Marks concluded by mentioning that Houston Rockets' Armin Thompson is poised to become the second player after Viktor Axelsen to secure a max contract extension this summer. As the fourth overall pick in the 2023 draft, Thompson has played 183 regular season games for the Rockets, averaging 13.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
