In the ninth matchday of the 2025/26 Premier League season, Liverpool, despite leading thanks to goals from Kırkez Miloş and Salah, ultimately lost 2-3 to Brentford. Liverpool vice-captain Robertson said his teammates' continued efforts were the only way to help the team overcome its difficulties.

Just five minutes into the game, Christopher Ayeh assisted Dango Ouattara to score from the ditch, giving Brentford a dream start with a 1-0 lead. In the 45th minute, Kevin Shad scored, helping Brentford continue to lead Liverpool 2-0.

Failure to fully execute the battle plan

Robertson pointed out: "I think we didn't do enough without the ball. We had a few bright moments in the first half and kept the ball well. But we can't expect to control the game easily away to Brentford. They are always ready to fight, always pile into the box from set pieces, and keep playing long balls and winning the ball."

"They won the ball back too much and kept passing it behind us, forcing our defence to keep chasing back, which was difficult in itself. We knew how good they were at set pieces and had practiced defending throw-ins. But in the first three minutes they conceded three long throw-ins and that led to a goal. That's not good and it played into their hands."

In addition, Robertson also said, "Every team has a clear plan when facing us. The Premier League coaches are very good, especially those teams that have a full week to prepare. They will have a clear strategy, and I think they execute it perfectly. On the other hand, we almost failed to implement our plan, which made the game more difficult."
