Real Sociedad defeated Sevilla by 2-1 on matchday 9 of the 2025/26 La Liga season at the Estadio Municipal de Anoeta on Friday.

In the first half, Oyarzabal scored from the penalty spot, and Gudelj's shot deflected into the net before Oyarzabal found the net with a close-range half-volley. In the second half, Vlachodimos nearly made a deadly mistake while clearing the ball in his own penalty area. Ultimately, Real Sociedad defeated Sevilla 2-1. Following this match, Txuri -rdin, having ended their losing streak, have escaped the relegation zone and temporarily moved up to 14th place on the table with nine points; Los Nervionenses are currently in ninth place with 10 points.

First Half

In the eighth minute, Sevilla was awarded a corner kick. Alexis Sánchez took the corner by crossing the ball into the box, Rubén Vargas rose high and attempted with a header in the box, however his effort flew high out of the pitch.

9 minutes later, Mikel Oyarzabal's cross from the byline at the right strucked Fabio Cardoso's arm, prompting the referee to award a penalty to Real Sociedad. Oyarzabal took the penalty and slotted home with his left foot, giving Real Sociedad an early 1-0 lead.

In the 30th minute, Sevilla had a crucial free kick opportunity. Gabriel Suazo's low cross from outside the penalty area was received by Nemanja Gudelj, who quickly followed up and volleyed into the top left corner of the net with his left foot from the center of the box, Sevilla equalized Real Sociedad at 1-1. This is the Sevilla captain's ninth goal for the club!

6 minutes later, Real Sociedad launched a deadly quick counterattack. José Ángel Carmona made a mistake with a throw-in. Brais Méndez intercepted the ball and passes horizontally from the edge of the byline at the left side of the box. Oyarzabal quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net with his left foot from very close distance in the box to score his second goal of the match, giving Real Sociedad a 2-1 lead again! This is the Real Sociedad captain's 122nd goal for the club in all competitions!

In the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time, Ander Barrenetxea made a straight pass the ball from the left side of the box. Carlos Soler quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, strucked the ball with a left-footed shot from a very close distance in the box, but his shot was blocked by Odysseas Vlachodimos' outstretched legs.

At the end of the first half, Real Sociedad temporarily led Sevilla by 2-1 at halftime.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 53rd minute, Méndez passes back from the center of the box. Soler quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, took a right-footed long shot from the edge of the penalty area, but his shot flew high out of the pitch.

In the 83rd minute, Real Sociedad launched a quick counterattack. Vlachodimos slipped while clearing the ball inside his own penalty area. Sergio Gómez quickly followed up, intercepted the ball and took a few steps before volleying with his left footed from the right side of the box, but his shot ball went just slightly wide of the bottom right corner of the open goal, Sevilla escaped from being punished from such dangerous situation.

7 minutes later, Gudelj crossed into the box from the right wing. Vargas rose high and attempted with a header in the box, however his effort went just wide of the left side of the post.

When the full time whistle is blown, Real Sociedad defeated Sevilla by 2-1.
