Newcastle United defender Dan Burn recently received the Bryce Freedom Award, the highest civic honor in his hometown of Bryce, in recognition of his significant contributions to the club and community in 2025.

This highly symbolic award not only recognizes Burn's extraordinary moments on the football field, but also praises his profound spiritual influence on the younger generation in his hometown.

Burn has a long history with Newcastle United. In January 2022, Newcastle United made their first offer of £7 million, but Brighton rejected it. Just two days later, the two clubs reached an agreement for £13 million, and he officially signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, joining the club he supported as a child and played for during his youth.

On March 16, 2025, Burn scored the opening goal for Newcastle United with a dominant header in the English League Cup final, helping the team defeat Liverpool 2-1 and win their first domestic title since 1955.

His goal in the English League Cup was not only Newcastle United's first ever goal at Wembley in 25 years, but also their first ever in a final since 1976. Burn subsequently extended his contract until 2027 in May 2025, solidifying his central role in the team.

For these contributions, Bryce Mayor David Swinhoe and Deputy Town Secretary Elaine Brown recently visited Newcastle United's training ground to present Burne with the "Bryce Freedom Award".

"I have always been proud to be a Bryce, and I hope that the next generation of children will see me and be inspired to pursue their own dreams," Bourne said in his acceptance speech.
