Aston Villa announced on Tuesday that they have officially signed Besiktas striker Tammy Abraham. The two sides signed a four-and-a-half-year contract, valid until June 30, 2030.
Abraham spent the first half of the season on loan at Besiktas, where he delivered an impressive performance with 13 goals and 3 assists in 26 appearances. Before joining Aston Villa, Besiktas activated the €13 million buy-out clause in his contract.
Multiple sources have confirmed that Abraham's transfer fee is £18.25 million. As part of the deal, 19-year-old Turkish center-back Yassin Özcan, previously on loan from Aston Villa to Anderlecht, will join Besiktas.
The 28-year-old Abraham came through Chelsea's youth academy and made his Premier League debut for the first team on May 12, 2016. He made 82 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 30 goals and providing 12 assists, winning one Champions League title and one UEFA Super Cup with the club.
Due to a lack of playing time, Abraham was loaned out by Chelsea to Bristol City, Swansea City, and Aston Villa. He also contributed 26 goals and 3 assists for Villa, who were then playing in the Championship, in the 2018/19 season, helping the team achieve promotion to the Premier League.
In August 2021, Abraham transferred to Roma for €41 million. During his time at Roma, he made 120 appearances in all competitions, contributing 37 goals and 14 assists, and was considered a key member of the team that won the 2021/22 European Championship.
However, Abraham's form declined due to injuries starting in 2024. He was subsequently loaned out by Roma to AC Milan and Besiktas, where he won an Italian Super Cup with the team.
All indications suggest that Abraham accepted a pay cut in this transfer. His main goal in returning to the Premier League is to earn a call-up to the national team and prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Since making his international debut in 2017, Abraham has been on the fringes of the Three Lions squad. To date, he has only made 11 appearances for England, scoring 3 goals and providing 1 assist.
