AC Milan secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Bologna in a key match of the 23rd round of the 2025/26 Serie A season, with goals from Loftus-Cheek, Nkunku, and Rabiot. In a post-match interview, Allegri stated that his team could have improved in ball possession and would continue to strive for Champions League qualification.
In the 20th minute, Rabiot, scrambling through a scramble, passed the ball back to Loftus-Cheek, who immediately slotted it home, giving AC Milan a 1-0 lead. In the 36th minute, Nkunku was brought down by Bologna goalkeeper Lavarilla while receiving a through ball, resulting in a penalty for AC Milan. Nkunku converted the penalty, extending AC Milan's lead over Bologna to 2-0.
In the 48th minute of the second half, Bologna made a mistake when taking a throw-in, and Rabiot won possession and entered the penalty area before scoring with a low shot, helping AC Milan extend their lead to 3-0.
AC Milan ultimately defeated Bologna 3-0 away from home. After three wins and two draws in their last five matches, AC Milan currently sits in second place in the standings with 50 points, five points behind their city rivals Inter Milan in first place.
AC Milan coach Allegri said, "Nkunku and Loftus-Cheek are both strong teams, and we must take the game seriously because their defense has always been good. Bologna is a dangerous and mature team, and their players have performed excellently in both defense and attack."
“It was a good game, but in my opinion, we could have done better in terms of ball control. The reason we played so smoothly was because Nkunku and Cheek performed so well, which allowed us to control the ball better and add more depth to our attack.”
In addition, Allegri said, "It's really important for us to get 50 points at this stage of the season because our goal is to finish in the top 4. We defended very well after taking a 3-0 lead, and it's always good not to concede a goal."
"But more importantly, we need to look ahead. This season is still long, and we need to get more points to secure Champions League qualification. We will use the time without Sunday games to make good adjustments, and hopefully all the players can return as soon as possible."
