Defending champions Barcelona took the lead in a key match of the 24th round of the 2025/26 La Liga season thanks to a goal from Pau Cuvarsi, but conceded two goals later in the game, ultimately losing 1-2 to Girona. In an interview, Flick stated that his team will train hard and return to a better level with a different mindset.
Olmo was brought down by Daly Blind in first-half stoppage time, resulting in a penalty for Barcelona. Yamal then took the penalty but hit the post. In the 59th minute of the second half, Koundé delivered a cross, and Pau Cuvarsi headed it in, giving Barcelona a 1-0 lead.
In the 62nd minute, Vanat crossed the ball into the box, and Thomas Lemar slotted it home to level the score at 1-1 for Girona. In the 86th minute, Joel Roca passed the ball back to Fran Berland, who unleashed a long-range shot to give Girona a 2-1 lead.
Ultimately, Barcelona lost 1-2 to Girona away from home. After losing three points, Barcelona dropped to second place in the standings with 58 points, two points behind leaders Real Madrid.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said, "Our defense was very poor, especially during transitions. We were poorly positioned and struggled to contain Girona's attacks. We need more possession and fewer mistakes. We created more chances in the first half, but we must show the desire to win."
"After losing to Atletico Madrid in the previous match, winning this game was really important, so everyone was very disappointed. We are not playing well right now and are not in good momentum."
In addition, Barcelona will host Levante at Camp Nou in the next round of La Liga.
Flick also stated, "We have a week of training time next week, and we will make good use of it. We will return with a different mindset and a higher level in the coming weeks. We haven't performed well enough, and I don't want to make excuses; we must play better."
