Ahead of a crucial Premier League match against Wolves on Wednesday night, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta provided fans with an update on the team's injuries.
According to Arteta, the two key defenders, Riccardo Calafiori and Ben White, are both fit to play and are expected to be available for the match at Molineux Stadium.
Arsenal's defense teetered on the brink of collapse in Sunday's 4-0 FA Cup victory over Wigan Athletic. Calafiori was forced out of the starting lineup due to an injury sustained during warm-up, while White was substituted in the second half due to discomfort.
In response, Arteta stated at the pre-match press conference: "Ricardo is fine now. He participated in full training today and feels good." As for White, the coach explained that he only experienced fatigue due to some tightness in his hamstrings and had not suffered any lasting injury.
However, the injury situation in the midfield and attack still needs to be addressed with caution. Arteta confirmed that captain Martin Odegaard and striker Kai Havertz will definitely miss the match against Wolves.
However, Arsenal's medical team is making every effort to get both key players back for Sunday's highly anticipated North London derby. Arteta stated, "We very much hope Martin can return on Sunday, and the same goes for Kei; it's a possibility."
Furthermore, regarding Arsenal's recent recurring pattern of "warm-up injuries," including Saliba, Saka, and Carafiori all being injured during pre-match warm-ups, Arteta admitted that this was indeed very unusual.
“In the past six years of my coaching career, this may have only happened once or twice, but it has happened four times in a row recently,” Arteta said seriously. “This is obviously not normal, and we are investigating the reasons in depth.”
